Daniel 3:25
“Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god!”This is a very familiar story about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These three men of God decided against the decree given by the king to worship the gods and the gold statue he had commanded everyone to worship. These three men were over the province of Babylon . They were people of leadership, so this really made the king mad when they refused listen to his command.
King Nebuchadnazzar gave them one more chance to worship his gods and gold statue, but they told him they would never worship them, but only serve their one true God. The king had them put into a firing furnace to be killed, but while they were inside a fourth person was visible from the inside. Nothing touched or harmed them. The king was so astonished that he told the people to never talk against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego or they would be torn from limb to limb.
This story is a great reminder of how to live for God even though we might be persecuted. These three men faced the most powerful king of the world at the time and God protected them from harm. God will always have a way for Him to get the glory when we stay faithful to Him. Even if they were to die, God would have found a way to further His plan for mankind, but He decided to intercede on their behalf to humble an arrogant and prideful king and ultimately, to show the king that God is in control of the world, not him.
Dear Jesus, I pray that I will worship and follow you alone. Help me not to get caught up in the things of this world. Set me apart for your will and plan today! In Jesus’ name, Amen!
