Picking Fights

Obadiah 1:21
Those who have been rescued will go up to Mount Zion in Jerusalem to rule over the mountains of Edom. And the LORD himself will be king!”

Have you ever fought with a sibling? I can remember fighting over the remote with my younger brother and picking fights with my older brother as a child. Edom and Israel were constantly picking fights with each other. You can date it back to the days of Esau and Jacob found in Genesis 25:19-26. Israel had descended from Jacob and Edom descended from Esau.

From time to time, we will get into little fights and argue with each other about things that don’t really matter. In this case, Edom was picking a fight with God’s chosen people, Israel. The Bible says, if you don’t want to help God’s people, then you are an enemy of God. Watching innocent children dying on the streets of starvation and doing nothing about it is sin. Having the opportunity to help someone in need and doing nothing, is sin. Not sharing the gospel with someone when you have the opportunity too, is sin.

What do you spend most your time doing throughout the day? Do you spend most your time fighting, arguing, and complaining about someone or something? Do you spend most your time on the internet or watching television? Do you spend anytime in God’s word and prayer? How much time do you spend sharing the gospel with someone at work? These are important questions to ask because if we don’t conquer these questions in life, we will ultimately be living for something that doesn’t really matter. The only thing that matters is reaching people for Christ. All the fighting and arguing leads nowhere and it can end pretty ugly sometimes.

Remember, keep moving forward and follow God no matter what. When you have an opportunity to share your faith, seize the moment and watch how God will use it for His glory. All the other things we do are secondary. Don’t let petty things over take you and lead you down a slippery slope.

Dear Jesus, help me to be a doer of the word today. Help me to put my faith into practice and motion. Give me opportunities to share my faith with someone today. Help me not to focus all my time and energy on things that don’t matter. Help me to prioritize my time and my thoughts for your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
