Strong Refuge

Nahum 1:7-8
The LORD is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him. But he will sweep away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He will pursue his foes into the darkness of night.

How would you rate your walk with the Lord today? Are you seeking Him out daily and reading His word and praying? Are you so overwhelmed with your job and your family that you have a hard time spending time alone with God? Are you down and discouraged because you don’t know how you’re going to get out of the situation you’re currently in? What we can learn from all of these things is this; if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. If we fall away from God, we will have a hard time figuring anything out because we have in essence, put our lives in our control.

As this scripture says, The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in Him. If we don’t stay close to God, then we can’t expect God to move in our lives when things go wrong. It’s easy to blame God, but God is the only answer for our problems. That kind of thinking only shows how much we don’t know about God. But when you devote your life to God, you will realize how much love He has for you. You will see things in a new way that you never saw before. The trials of this life will be little hurdles to overcome, not mountains.

When you put your faith into motion, you will experience something most people don’t experience. Many people say they can’t believe in something they can’t see, but that is exactly what having faith is about. John 20:29 says, Then Jesus told him, "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me." We have to have faith and believe that Jesus is our strong refuge in times of trouble. We have to believe He has our best interest at heart. Don’t worry about the darkness and evil of this world. God knows all about it and has called us to share His light to the dark places of this world.

Dear Jesus, thank you for being my strong refuge in times of trouble. Today, I seek you alone and make you Lord over all of my life. Help me to draw near to you and learn from your Word. Give me the faith that can move mountains so I can be a light in a dark world. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
